The Wittenberg Field Hockey Overnight Camp is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, June 19th and Saturday, June 20th, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday, June 21st, on the campus of Wittenberg University. The camp is open to anyone in grades 9-12. This camp will develop everything from basic skills to elite skills and tactics. This includes individual skills, goal-scoring, small games, and scrimmaging. We will also include goalie-specific training with a goalie coach. We will be providing a competitive environment with a focus on energy and effort with a lot of fun!
Camp cost is $325. All campers are responsible for bringing their own equipment including, but not limited to, the following: Pillow, bedding, towels, toiletries, shorts, shirts, socks, turf shoes, shin guards, mouth guard, stick, and water bottle. No equipment will be provided to ANY camper. Wittenberg Field Hockey pinnies will be provided. Housing will be provided for campers in a Wittenberg dorm. All meals will be covered by camp starting with lunch on June 19th through breakfast on June 21st.

Head Coach Brighid Kortyna '18 '21
After four seasons as a standout player and five seasons as an assistant coach in Wittenberg University’s field hockey program, Brighid Kortyna was elevated to the head coaching position at her alma mater in January 2024. In her first season as head coach, she was awarded North Coast Athletic Conference Staff of the Year while leading the team to their best season since 2011. In her second season, she led the team to the NCAC tournament for the second year in a row.
A native of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, earned her bachelor’s degree with cum laude honors from Wittenberg in sport management and a minor in business in 2018, and she completed her master’s degree in athletic coaching at Wittenberg in 2021. As a midfielder for Wittenberg, Kortyna started 76 of 78 games between 2014 and 2017. A two-year team captain, she earned honorable mention All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) honors in 2014, in addition to All-Academic Squad recognition from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) following multiple seasons during her career.
Goalie Coach Maddie Passarella
Maddie Passarella joined the Wittenberg University field hockey coaching staff in 2024. She serves as the team's goalkeepers coach.
In Passarella's first year on the staff, the Tigers got off to a tremendous start, winning the first nine games of the 2024 season.
A 2019 graduate of Miami University, Passarella also obtained her master's degree from Miami in 2021. As a student-athlete in the RedHawks' program, Passarella was named first-team All-Mid-American Conference in 2017 and second-team All-MAC in 2018. She also earned MAC All-Tournament team honors in 2017 after earning MAC Player of the Week twice during that season. In 2018, Passarella's goals against average of 1.05 ranked sixth in the nation as she recorded nine shutouts and two shared shutouts, including one in the first round of the NCAA Division I Tournament against nationally ranked Boston University. Her GAA in 2018 ranks sixth in program history, and she also ranks second in shutouts for a season.
Graduate Assistant Bella Cowen
Bella Cowen joined the Wittenberg Field Hockey coaching staff as a graduate assistant in August 2025 under Head Coach Brighid Kortyna.
Cowen concluded her collegiate career at Allegheny College and graduated with Latin Honors, Cum Laude, in May 2025. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business with Honors and a minor in Writing.
On the field, she started 38 of her 56 career games, ending with 16 goals, six assists, and 38 points in her career after leading the Gators in goals and points as a senior. At the end of her first season (2021), Cowen earned NCAC Newcomer of the Year, First-Team All-NCAC, and NFHCA All-Region VI Second Team. She was also named the Allegheny College Women’s Newcomer Athlete of the Year in 2021 by the Athletics Department Staff.
